Great Lakes and Indians Black Powder Horn
This black powder horn is made from a cream colored steer horn. The large end is plugged with a piece of walnut and has a piece of oak with walnut stain shaped like an acorn in the center as a stopper which can be removed when filling the horn. The throat has two rings turned into the end so the lanyard or shoulder strap can be attached to the horn. The stopper in the small end is also oak with walnut stain and it is shaped like a mushroom. The shoulder strap is made from yarn and has four pieces of 1/8' thick leather attached close to the ends. It is attached with glue and Imitation sinew and has a silhouette of a wolf howling sewn in with imitation sinew. There are leather laces that match attached to both sides of both ends of the strap. Two of the are used to attach the horn to the strap and Deer antler buttons are also used to help fasten it to the horn. On one side of the horn is a scrimshawed picture of the Great Lakes region and a tomahawk pipe with feathers. The other side has a scrimshawed picture of two Native Americans hunting turkey with a bow.
