Coughlin Ohio River Map Black Powder Horn
This Black Powder Horn was made for a re-enactor here in Wheeling, WV. He special ordered this horn for his use in the reenactments at Oglebay Park. It has a very colorful woven strap with leather tabs attached at both ends so the leather straps could be attached to it and the horn. On one side is scrimshawed, Carried into Freedom By Kevin Coughlin. On the other side is a map of the Ohio River Valley from Fort Pitt down to New Martinsville, WV with all the creeks, forts, villages and settlements during the Revolutionary war. The large end has a large piece of walnut with white pine dowels inserted into it for decoration. This is the end you fill the horn from and it has a walnut stopper which is removed for filling. The small end or throat of the horn has another walnut stopper which is removed for pouring.
