Ohio River Map Black Powder Horn
This Black Powder Horn is handcrafted steer horn that is about 15 or 16 inches long. One side is scrimshawed with a Native American Indian kneeling down getting ready to shoot at a cougar drinking out of a water hole. On the other side the scrimshaw work is of a map from Pittsburg Pennsylvania where the 3 rivers meet following the Ohio River down to New Matamoras Ohio with all of the settlements, villages and forts that were along the river during the time of 1750 to 1800. There is a powder measurer attached to the horn that was made from a piece of the small end of the horn that was cut off and is carved into the shape of an arrowhead. The large end has a piece of walnut embedded into it with a piece of oak hand carved in the shape of an acorn for the plug. The small end has been scraped down into an octagon shape and the stopper is also a piece of oak in the shape of an acorn.
